Mission-Halloween Day

Dear Readers,
Today was Halloween and Mission Day and what a day it was! We had the best time this morning over in the gym playing the games, getting our faces painted, getting our nails and hair done and singing popular songs karaoke style. It was great! Then we came back and did some review bingo in math and religion. After lunch we went to dance and then we set up to work on our saint dolls. What a fast afternoon it was! It was so much fun and we learned not only about our saint but how to use our creativity to make a paper doll. Thank you moms and dads that helped us get ready ahead of time. You are the best! Now we are thinking about trick-or-treating tonight. Have a great weekend. Don't forget to turn your clocks back this Sunday.

Wonderful Wednesday

Dear Readers,
This morning we saw our 6th grade prayer partners and sang or read a Halloween poem or song with them. Then we worked on math and solved word problems using tables to see growing patterns. Tonight we need to make our own Word Problem using the information from a table already made. We learned some more facts about God the Father and taped our study sheet into our Study Book. Then Mrs. B., our Phys. Ed. teacher, came into our room and talked to us about safety with good touches. We are excited for tomorrow's Mission Day-Halloween Day experience.

Terrific Tuesday

Dear Readers,
We learned some facts in religion about God the Father who is the creator. In Math, we solved some word problems and found the solution by making a table and finding the growing pattern. We listened to a story about a moose in a bathroom and learned the difference between fact and opinion. Facts can be proven true or false and opinions tell what we think, feel, or believe. We went to the library and practiced non-fiction reading. Finally we danced to a planet song and sang it too. What fun we had!

Our Day

Dear Readers,
Welcome back to our blog. We had an extra day off for parent conferences last week. Today we practiced some questions and answers for the Church Year or Liturgical Year calendar. Then we made some growing and repeating patterns with shapes and letters. Sister Margaret took us for a walk and talk about some art work that shows people connected with the I.H.M. sisters. We learned about consonant blends or clusters and we saw a video about how Halloween began. This week is full of excitement with Mission Day coming on Thursday.

Wonderful Wednesday

Dear Readers,
Today we started off with Religion. We drew a picture of how we could celebrate Sunday during Ordinary Time. In math, we learned how to write riddles using words like between, just before and just after. Numbers on a number line helped us to understand these terms. We had gym today and we played a Halloween game. Then we ate lunch.
In the afternoon, we read our story "Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night" and did our Reading/Writing workshop. What fun we had!

Tuesday

Dear Readers,
Today we got our pictures taken. We also got a saint or angel's name to research. The K-W-L skill stands for Know-Want to know-What I Learned. We went to the library and were working on a non-fiction book and have an information sheet in our yellow, library folder to go with our book. Some of us finished it today at reading workshop time. Tonight we get to work on our saint and an activity from United Streaming-The Solar System.

Much on Monday

Dear Readers,
We had a good day starting with our visitor, Mrs. Medeiros. She did a ghost craft with us. We started learning about Mary Mother of God and what a saint is. Our paper tonight is from www.webelieveweb.com saints section. Then we started even and odd numbers and explored www.ixl.com for the different activities available on it.
After recess, we went to the computer room and learned how to do new assignments on United Streaming-Discovery Education. If we type www.unitedstreaming.com in the address bar of the computer screen, we can show you how to find a new assignment from the teacher by typing in our username and password found in our H.O.R.S.E.
Then we ate some of our pumpkin seeds that were baked in the oven and gotten from the seeds found inside our Jack-O-Lantern from Friday. They were baked especially for the second grade. The seeds helped us write some new spelling-vocabulary words that were challenging and helpful for expanding our vocabulary. We began our our new Reading theme called Nature Walk. Then we worked on painting our landforms with our table buddies from September. We had a really full day. What interesting learning we had today!

Fun Friday

Dear Readers,
Today we found the readings for Mass on Sunday online www.universalis.com. Then we took a religion test about the Church Year. We also went to art and music. In art we made a paper pumpkin with oil pastels. Then in music we sang a fun song about the Noble Duke.
In the afternoon we finished our spelling assessments and read non-fiction science books. Some of us made a moon phases calendar to keep track of the moon phases. Then we went outside and carved a pumpkin to make a Jack-O-Lantern. We finally made our poems to go with our experience today.
