Dear Readers,
Today was the Christmas bazaar and the theme was beach and Christmas in tropical places. We also had art and traced our hands closed and opened, cut them out and finally made them into a wreath. We listened to the "Nutcracker" theme song and clapped the loud sounds. Next week we will use ribbons for the loud sounds. We danced in gym class to some Christmas carols. Yesterday we went on a field trip to West Chester University's Planetarium. What a great day that was! Right before Thanksgiving we made Advent Tagxedos on the computer. Then this week we learned more about animals and are starting research for making a power-point presentation of an animal of our choice.

End of Church Year 2014
Dear Readers,
Today is our last day of this church year. Sunday is the first day of Advent and a new church year. In the afternoon, after the computer room,we took a challenge and tried to make the tallest tower using marshmallows and spaghetti (not cooked). It had to stand for 30 seconds and we discovered it was very hard to do. The tables that worked together really made less mess and had a good base for their tower. We are thinking of ways to improve our towers for when we try it again. It was fun.
Now we are thinking of our Thanksgiving dinner and holidays and next Thursday's field trip to West Chester University's planetarium. We hope you all have a great holiday and a happy Thanksgiving.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day
Dear Readers,
Today some of our grandparents and special friends came to our school to visit us. We enjoyed a snack, going to chapel for a prayer service, seeing our classroom, and going to art and music with them. Some of us finished our turkeys that hold our Thanksgiving letter to Jesus.
This week we read from our IPads, did some oral reading to the teacher, and did a oral presentation of our saint that we researched and wrote about. We worked in the computer room and started researching on Little Explorers Dictionary from Enchanted Learning. We are looking for different animals that begin with different letters of the alphabet and giving clues about them for others to guess the animal. Different habitats are a part of our project. We hope everyone has a great weekend and happy Thanksgiving.

More Excitement
Dear Readers,
We had another exciting day because we finished our letters to Jesus in the computer lab. We even added a picture or two or three to our letters. Thanksgiving turkeys were colored and some of us cut out the turkey parts to hold the letter to Jesus about being thankful for everything.
Handwriting is fun because we are so close to starting cursive writing. We demonstrated how venial sins can hurt the whole group. By using clear water and dropping in food coloring when something said or done was mean or wrong on purpose. Prayer, kindness and compliments turned the water clear again. We also enjoyed working on word problems and solving them by using data in a graph. Friday is grandparents day and we are getting excited to welcome visitors. What an exciting week this is going to be!

Busy Week Planned
Dear Readers,
Today we worked on our Saint projects and saved our Solar System Sentinel News Report to our electronic folder. We learned more about Veteran's Day. We found out that Nov. 11th every year is about celebrating all those who served in our military services to protect our country's freedoms. This week we will be having Visit to Villa Day on Wednesday. So many visitors come to our classroom. What a popular room we have!
We will be working on a comic strip maker for a digital comic of making a choice-using free will. We will be acting out a story about the Loving Father or the Prodigal Son found in Scripture. We are trying to add some characters that are in the Scripture story of the Prodigal Son but not in our Religion Book, play version. We are still trying to complete the saints common craft video. We have quite projects happening at the same time. It really is fun.

Fun Friday Again!
Dear Readers,
Today was fun Friday and we got a pin for reminding us we are preparing for the sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion. We worked on our E.L.A. assignments and got to play different board games and work on the IPads too. We made our bar graphs and questions to go with it. What fun we had!

Exciting Times
Dear Readers,
Friday was Halloween and we didn't have to write in this blog. We had a great day on Mission Day for Halloween. We went to the gym and spent our money on singing and getting our nails and hair done and buying Oreos. We came back and had art then music and lunch. After lunch we played Halloween Bingo and won sticky eyeballs. We wrote guess who we are paragraphs and mad libs. What a blast we had!
Today we tried writing our Wordles again and had better luck but some of our work would not print. Our spelling needs a little practice on some of our papers. We saw the Saints that the 1st grade presented in chapel. They were awesome. We can hardly wait to see what tomorrow brings for us!

Getting Ready
Dear Readers,
We got to the computer room today and made Wordles for Unit one: Friends and Family in our reading book. Some of us need to go back again and redo our work since today was the first time we tried creating and printing. We are at the end of our first reading unit and wanted to remember some important details and ideas from the different stories.
This is the week of much review, assessments and excitement. We will be taking religion and spelling assessments tomorrow. Wednesday and Thursday will be math assessments for our subtraction facts in computation, communicating mathematically, problem solving and modeling. Friday will be exciting because we will be celebrating with Mission Day which is awesome because we go over to the gym and play games and win candy. All the money collected from the activities will go to a school that needs supplies and teaching tools. We love helping others!

Sequence
Dear Readers,
For the sake of time, Sister Ruth is typing this entry. Today we started by being a little tired. Some of us went to Friday's Family Bingo. Those who went had fun. Some of us won the raffles and the prizes for bingo.
We are practicing sequence words in our writing. See if you can identify some sequence words we use in this entry. First, we made scrolls like the early writers of the Bible. We learned that the Bible is important to us because it shows us how much God loves us and how we should love Him and others. Then, we learned other names for numbers. 8 has names like 4 + 4, 16 - 8, 5 + 3, 7 +1, and 1 + 6 + 1. Next, we practiced keys to legibility in our writing. Pp and Bb were the letters we practiced in words like baseball, and pitcher.
After lunch, we read our stories: "Taking Care of Pepper" and "Lola and Tiva an Unlikely Friendship". Both stories were narrative nonfiction which means someone is telling the story and everything is what happened. We worked with root words and predicates using the stories for text evidence. Finally, we took a nature walk with our prayer partner and found all kind of leaves and nuts and interesting things God made. Maybe we can include our walk in our personal narratives. What a great day we had!

Our Exciting Week
Dear Readers,
This week was fun because today we planted our spider plants. Our plants will grow if we take care of them just like our faith will grow if we pray every day, go to Mass for Sunday, pray the rosary, be kind, celebrate the sacraments, care for others, be responsible and be respectful. We made a Church Year wheel to remind us of the seasons of the Church Year.
We made the picture for cards at art that will become real cards. We completed our snack mats with pictures of healthy food.
Today in music we played different instruments to help us sing the "Apple Tree" song. We took assessments in religion and spelling to see how much we learned this week and what we want to remember.
In physical education class, which is in the gym, we learned about our heart rate. In science we had to put the planets in order on our white board. Next week we will be picking a part of the solar system to research further so that we can make a newspaper called the Solar System Sentinel.
Last week we made a Spanish conversation video and this week we got homework to do for the days of the week. In reading, we answered an essential question that asked How do we care for animals? One of our stories was People Helping Whales . Finally, we worked on some E.L.A. centers for when we finished reading our leveled readers.

Hidden Picture Monday
Today we started our day by praying our rosary for all the sick and special intentions that we whispered in our hearts. In religion, our lesson goal was to learn about the Church year. Then we subtracted with zero and the same number like 8-0=8 and 8-8=0. Then we made our snack place-mats. We had a blank graph and followed directions to make a picture that was hidden in the graph. The picture was a jack-o-lantern. Then we wrote a personal narrative using our picture.

Great Day
Dear Readers,
We had an amazing day! First we worked with our experiment using milk and soap and food coloring. Wait until the science fair for all the details. Then we worked vertical forms for two-digit addition problems. Then we brain stormed some words for a Simplicity Acrostic. Finally we worked on our paper mache solar system and painted some and patched others.
Love,
2B
